Non-Fiction books for Your Gift List or Wish List: Unquenchable by Natalie Maclean
Through the humorous adventures of Natalie’s search for great buys in wine, I actually learned some tips. She guides you with wit, and to not believe that mainstream wineries are the best finds. It is the out-of-the-way places that will delight your palate. Her prose falls as freely as the wine, taking you from the underground cellar to the dinner table.
I am fortunate to be in the vicinity of many fine BC wineries. With her book you, or your gift recipient, might fine some wine deals right in your own town!
Falling Backwards by Jann Arden
“I survived the stupidity of my youth.” This quote from Jann’s brutally honest memoir had me captivated. I was already a fan of her soulful melodies, however, reading her rise to fame made me want to buy her a beverage of her choice just to hear more.
From her small town childhood to busking in her early 20s in Vancouver, BC and to why she does not have children brought me to the reason why she says her parents are her treasures. Her folks live across the street from her today.
This book is a great Canadian gift as is she. Follow her on Twitter @jannarden

Wisdom Has a Voice: Every Daughters’ Memory of Mother edited by Kate Farrell
Full Disclosure: I had the pleasure of contributing to this amazing anthology.
From the vast backgrounds and generations who wrote their personal truths about their mother, these voices may resonate with another mom or daughter. The narratives deepen our understanding of the legacy between mothers and daughters voices - from whispers, heartaches and wit.
Onstage and offstage Michael Buble
The Burnaby, BC native has done well from his “overnight success.” Michael writes openly about being that it took ten years in paying his dues before he hit the mainstream music figure he is today. His roots are firmly planted in his love of his family. This empowerment made him take charge of his career path.
He quotes Malcolm Gladwell in that it takes of 10,000 hours of hard works to achieve success.
This would make a great coffee table book for any fan on your list. The short chapters and stunning photographs show why he is where he is today.
