Wesley Badanjak is a Canadian based designer of the women’s wear label, LOVAS. The line focuses on contemporary women’s wear that consists of pieces that feature classic tailoring and defined finishing in modern silhouettes to create an all around chic look.
Badanjak was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, where he completed a Bachelor of Biology at York University and an Honours Bachelor of Design in Fashion Design at Ryerson University. While studying fashion, Badanjak garnered many awards for his distinctive style, and interned for both women's wear label Peros and Holt Renfrew Design Studios. Since graduating, he has worked with the label tevrow+chase under American designer Paul Sinclaire, and with acclaimed Canadian designer David Dixon.
He takes inspiration from designers Lida Baday and Michael Kors saying “They are successful because they really figured out their business model properly. They know who they sell to, they know their price points, they know their fabrics, they know their quality, and they deliver season after season” in an interview with Front Row Magazine.
Badanjak’s latest line for Fall/Winter 2011 is called “Sisters” in honour of his mother Manda Badanjak and aunt, Marija Vejin, who were both immigrants from Croatia who arrived in the mid-1970s. The collection is influenced by both the decade his family came to the country as well as his Croatian roots. The line is very lady-like, with below-the-knee skirts, texture and blends of traditional Slavic floral prints, and jewel tones.
Join us on May 18th, where Wesley Badanjak will take part and add their expertise for our Courage to Lead: Spring Forward panel discussion at the Stirling Room.
