Profile: Melanie Cruickshank

By Natalie Ast

Melanie Cruickshank’s fascination with makeup started at the young age of four. She used to play dress up with her mother’s makeup, and was fascinated with the freedom makeup gave her to create different looks. As she grew up, she became absorbed in experimenting and researching makeup, but one thing was missing. Cruickshank could create a flawless makeup look, but it took her over 20 minutes, and she wanted to cut it down to only five. This challenge sparked the creation of her own makeup line, DaLish.

Cruickshank experimented with homemade formulas, turning her kitchen into the lab of a mad scientist, and finally streamlined her makeup application.  After testing it on herself, her girlfriends and colleagues started to take notice and realized that the colours suited everyone beautifully. It was a hit with her close circle of friends, so Cruickshank decided to take her dream to the next level and launched her products online.

DaLish is cruelty free, and is easy to apply without any makeup brushes or sponges.  Most of the eyeshadows and lipglosses are double-ended so you can easily transform your look from day to night in only one tube. The products have been featured in numerous fashion magazines and are available to buy online.
