A Sneak Peek at What's Hot for Fall/Winter 2011

By Erin Nadler

With summer weather finally here, it's hard to look ahead to the fall-winter season, but fashionistas are already chomping at the bit for the first glimpse of fall merchandise in retail stores. As a lover of all things glamorous and new, fall always brings out the best in designers, and this season is no different.

So you are probably wondering what’s happening this fall season and what should I expect, but more importantly where should I invest my fashion dollars?

1) Details, details, everywhere: From chain and zipper details on dresses, jackets, and coats, to the return of bold plaid fabrics, the runways were full of exciting details. In addition, bold stripes, embellished shoulders, and lace are presend as well. If you are looking to add a new piece for the season then why not try a bold striped tunic top paired with a skinny jean? Or why not pair a fabulous lace (this isn’t your mother’s lace it's less pretty and more edgy) overlay blouse to your classic black suit?

2) Bad to the bone: Leather, leather and more leather. Look out for leather jackets, leather skirts, and leather trim detailing this season. Additionally, fur is continuing to dominate this season. Fur vests, and fur trimmed collars and sleeves are giving a luxurious and lush vibe to fall dressing. Bring on the cowl neck sweaters and fur vests paired with a fabulous wide leg trouser.

3) Black is king: No surprise that black is back for fall but in addition to the classic black other colours as hues of grey, cobalt blue, orange, bold purples, winter white, and shades of red were all over the runways. So why not pop your favorite black outfit with a stunning red cashmere tie coat? Don't be afraid to use some of these bold tones this season to freshen up last fall’s dark colours.

4) Masculine flare meets feminine touches: Ruffles, ruching, tuxedo jackets, and bow ties are all making a big splash this season. From feminine detailed white blouses with stunning ruffled collars, to fabulous draped and ruched dresses, femininity is back but being contrasted to a more masculine silhouette. Mix your tailored business suits with a stunning ruffled satin blouse or purchase a flattering ruched dress and pair it with your classic and favorite blazer.

However you decide to interpret the fall trends make sure you stay true to your personal style.
