Booty Blasters 'R Us

I'll admit it: There are tons of things that I would like to permanently erase or replace on my body. Call me ridiculous, but when I feel good about myself everything else seems so much better.

Recently, I read a columnist's views on those Booty Boot Camp workshops and other specialty fitness classes. In her column, she questioned whether attending classes like this is a step back in feminism. If it were for their super corny titles (The Ultimate Chick Challenge or Pole Dance Your Pythons) then I agree, as they also make me want to throw up. My concern is that by looking too much into the title of these programs, she's not really seeing it as something that women enjoy and ultimately benefit from. So what if a woman wants to try a little pole dance here or there, or be a little concerned with what they're eating? It doesn't mean they're doing it to become the next opening act at Brass Rails or desperately trying to earn the body of George Burns. As long as female individuals approach these things in a smart and healthy way and feel good about what they're doing, I would say that's pretty feminist in my opinion. If a person is making their own choice of Jenny Craig over Hillary Clinton, and not necessarily because they feel they have to, then go right ahead.

The columnist herself even admits that she likes looking good and staying fit...as long as it doesn't make reference to one's lady lumps. Whatever. Even if a woman wants to excercise for her health, it's OK to want to get a compliment or two as well. So maybe Butt Blaster Babes is the best way to get someone kickstarted on their personal fitness goals. Everyone deserves to be noticed for the efforts they make to improve their appearance naturally. Just because they don't go jogging leaving a trail of burning bras in their wake, doesn't make them any less of a feminist.
