To the Rescue

I am a Superhero. I’ll admit, my flying techniques are a bit off and I’d rather not wear my cape out – it doesn’t match half my outfits – but I can do one million and two things (most people can only do one million and one.) However, this morning things changed which made me rethink my entire Superhero existence...

Despite a late night of work, I decided to get out there and run this morning (I’m a Superhero, remember?) Lacing up my shoes, I took to the road, but five minutes into it I realized: My pants are falling. Wondering if I had lost weight, I tugged at my pants and continued. Minutes later, they were falling again. Beeping horns and a couple of “Hey, Baby” calls later, I stopped, frustrated, and decided to head home. Stomping to the washroom, I looked in the mirror and realized: My pants are on backwards. Allow me to present to you the demise of my Superhero status.

Superheroes don’t have a collection of curling iron burns on their neck, nor do they leave their lunch on the streetcar or put their pants on backwards. Sometimes, we simply forget to take care of the most crucial thing: ourselves. Holy Batman...er...Batgirl...

Is it possible to overcome the Superhero complex and take care of ourselves before it’s too late?

Well here are a couple of what I like to call Sexy Food tips to overcome your Superhero status and emotionally eat the right way.

SEXY FOOD
Sexy food is synonymous with real, whole, unprocessed foods. They’re living foods that have the nutrients to combat stress. That’s a concept that dead, packaged stuff can’t live up to. So here are my top food picks:

WATER
Dehydration is a major form of stress on our bodies. It equals weight gain and higher chances of other physical and emotional imbalances down the road. So stay hydrated; after all, our bodies are made up of over 70% of the stuff.

OATS
An adaptogenic grain, oats improve our resistance to stress. They’re amazing for breakfast and can be enjoyed in the summer by soaking them overnight with water, along with nuts and dried fruit.

VITAMIN C RICH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
High sources of vitamin C help us better adapt to stress and increase our immune system. If you’re coming down with something or need an extra boost, whole food sources of vitamin C capsules like Camu or Acerola are best absorbed.
