REVIEW: 2010 CADILLAC SRX CROSSOVER

Imagine yourself sitting in the driver’s seat of a lavish, deep metallic gray crossover vehicle. Lean back and feel the seat – that has been designed for long-distance comfort – mold to your body. Place your hands on the steering wheel and tighten your grip over the Sapele Pomelle wood trim.

Take a long, deep breath. Can you smell the rich leather?

Go ahead, reach over and switch to one of  the 130 channels on XM Satellite Radio and bop your head to the latest Lady Gaga track blaring from the Bose 5.1 Cabin Surround audio system.

Feel the sun warm your cheeks and the breeze lightly blow your hair as you look up out the extra-large sunroof – large enough that it’s opened over both front and back seats – giving you that open-air “Ooh, I’m driving in a convertible,” feel.

This was my encounter with Cadillac’s 2010 SRX Crossover and I must admit, although I’m not a “car girl,” my experience with this one made it hard not to want to fall in love with a vehicle.

We live in a world where, whether we like to admit it or not, we can have our cake and eat it, too. And with the all-new 2010 Cadillac SRX Crossover you can have a vehicle that bridges the gap between form and function and offers you the performance you want with the luxury you deserve. Neither needs to be compromised. At least according to Cadillac.

Although crossovers are arguably glorified station wagons – and let’s be honest, there’s nothing sexy about driving one of those – Cadillac has done a great job with creating a car that you can ever-so-smugly show off to your family and friends as well as rely on to give you a safe and smooth All-Wheel drive, not to mention tons of storage space.

Aside from rear seatbacks that fold down for larger items (like when I finally get those adorable matching barstools from West Elm) and cargo nets to help secure smaller items, there’s extra space under the rear cargo floor and even a rather unique two-tiered storage pocket in the front and rear doors to store maps, sunglasses, sunscreen, almonds to snack on long drives, and other small items.

For the auto nut in you, the SRX boasts a 3.0-litre V6 engine that generates 265 horsepower, or for even greater performance there’s a turbocharged 2.8 litre V6 engine that puts out 300 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. But what that really translates to someone like me is how it handles. It offers a silky smooth ride and sensitive handling, making it easy to get comfortable with almost instantly.

With the 2010 Cadillac SRX Crossover, you can be confident you have one of the sexiest vehicles on the road, whose ride is as smooth as your freshly waxed, summer legs.

And if that’s not enough, maybe the 20-inch aluminum wheels with their glittering chrome finish and that unmistakable Cadillac grille will lure you in for a test-drive to see what all the fuss is about yourself.
