Bits of Bliss, Volume 2

Kathy Buckworth

As I continue my quest to find little Bits of Bliss for busy women everywhere, I find that I’m discovering them in some unusual places.  Like right now. On the surface, I’m a typical Mom waiting for her child to finish up a karate lesson, a scene replicated with different Moms in different lesson venues, all over Canada. But in reality, I’m a really happy Mom who has discovered the gift of free wifi in this karate studio, courtesy of a bowling alley next door. Armed with my laptop, I’ve managed to turn “wait time” into “work time”…or at least provide myself with the ability to surf the net.

And one of the websites I’ve been surfing a lot of lately is the newly redesigned Indigo website. I had the chance to visit their head office and get a tour of the new features on the site, which include some very cool and easy ways to shop for other people – searching by age, category, putting together wish lists (which they can do, and you can do – great functionality for a child’s birthday), as well as a “Deal Zone," the linking of Facebook “likes” for particular items…it’s all good and easy. Besides books, they’ve ramped up their toy and gift areas too – you could complete your holiday shopping list right here. They also ship late into December (check their site for your area and shipping dates/rates). I know what I’m doing during the next karate lesson.

Although I’ve known the owner of Nummies Bras for sometime, I’ll admit because I haven’t been in the market for her product (breastfeeding-friendly bras, and my youngest is eight), I didn’t realize how terrific her bras are. Well now I do, thanks to Twitter and other testimonials. And after spending a bit of timeon www.nummies.com (for research only!), I can see where the loyalty comes from. “Nummies bras and panties are made to accentuate your body and lighten your spirit.  Now you don’t have to give up your sense of style simply because you are nursing,” says Alison Kramer, on her website. From everything I’ve heard, it’s a promise they keep. And lightening your spirit has got to qualify for just a bit of bliss, doesn’t it?

This summer I attended a conference in New York City, where I was lucky to receive, free, a new Powermat charging system. As I was traveling with my two teenagers at the time, I immediately saw the benefit of having this amazing interchangeable charging system (two different smartphones, a cellphone, and an iPod constantly needed reloading in our room), that travels easily and allows any number of electronic units the ability to recharge. So easy to keep track of one unit (plus its many outlet/input heads) versus the octopus-like tangled mess of power cords I see nightly on my kitchen counter. I take this everywhere when I travel and never worry about not having plucked the right chargers out of the tangled abyss…again.

As a final note, so happy to have been asked to speak at the next Women’s Post “Courage to Lead” event (December 1st) on the topic of, you guessed it, Blissful Bits. I’ll be joined by Gloria MacDonald of Perfect Partners, as we share tips on how to achieve bliss at home, work, and Gloria’s specialty, love. You’ll have to attend to find out about how she and I worked together in a past life. Nothing to do with online posts or partners. The event is being held at the fantastic Urban Barn, and tickets are only $20 – click here for more information and to register as it is expected to sell out. Wine, nibblies, networking and home décor will do that.
