Films by Women, Seen by Everyone
If executive director and festival founder Leslie Ann Coles has anything to say about it, Toronto might soon be the film festival capital of the world. Along with that other festival our city hosts, the Female Eye Film Festival showcases offerings from some very talented players.
Running from March 27 to 30, the festival opened with director Kari Skogland's tragic, brilliantly nuanced, and occasionally humorous rendition of the Margaret Laurence classic, The Stone Angel. Skogland was this year's recipient of the Festival's Honorary Director Award. “We're serious players on the world stage,” she said of Canadian film at one of the festival's gala evenings.
As well as screenings, the weekend's venues played host to panel discussions, script readings, a tribute to Lindalee Tracey, an awards night, and included plenty of time to discuss the works and events over a cocktail or two.
