What has become of the gay penguins, Jersey Shore, and Edge Walk since we first heard about them in 2011?
Penguin Pardon Please, November 2011. In spite of all the pleas, two Toronto Zoo penguins named Pedro and Buddy, who appeared to be having their own relationship, cleverly dubbed a "Bromance," going on. The zoo had other plans for them though and they were separated during mating season so they could, um, increase the penguin population. It turns out that Buddy and Pedro were not the only penguins in the world to choose a same sex partner. Although not common, it's a choice that's been made at zoos all over the world. Buddy, 21, was paired with Farai, 3, on November 19 and breeding activity was observed, the zoo has said. Pedro, 10, was introduced to females on Dec. 1 and has been seen “constantly” courting them, including Thandiwey, the one the zoo wants him to mate with. It's tough to lose at love, but maybe they teamed up again after the procreation fest?
Jersey Shore, March 2011. This is the reality TV show that gave mothers of young women and men heart failure. And fathers too I bet. The show followed a group of eight men and women (boys and girls?) during summer vacation as they all lived and loved together at the New Jersey Shore. There was a lot of loving going on and then a lot of regret, leading to a lot more loving. The show continues to break records: the season's January 2011 opener was viewed by a record 8.45 million viewers, making it MTV's most viewed telecast ever. Proving all TV's love of a jackpot, MTV has confirmed a fifth season will return to the original digs of the New Jersey Shore. I can feel the love from here.
Walking Where? June 2011. The most famous and tallest landmark in Canada, the CN Tower, in an effort to stem lagging tourism dollars, came up with a breathtaking attraction called EdgeWalk. And they're not kidding when they say "edge". It's a ledge outside of the 116th story and it's only 1.5 meters wide and a very long 150 meters around the whole ledge. It takes about one and a half hours and costs $175.00 per person. Prominently displayed on their website - "Thanks for a great first season! 2012 Season begins in May. Reservations begin February 2012." Oh thank goodness.
Check back next week for updates on the Biscayne Bay piano, Cinderella Man, and Lego Man.
