Have you ever been told to "march outta here right now?" There's a sense of certainty in that usually yelled phrase. The end is near!
Now there's a guy who has done exactly that - marched outta here - the here being his place of work for the past 3 ½ years. And he did it up in style with his own, what else, marching band.
Watch a video of this guy named Joey as he does it up in style.
Just as I loved to read about Steven Slater who quit his airline job by jumping into an emergency slide (see my article about Steven here), I'm now loving what Joey has pulled off instead of a ho-hum resignation. Sometimes it's good to go out in style!
Joey plays in a local band and he sneaked his band mates into the local Marriot Hotel where he's worked for the past 3 ½ years. When his meany boss demanded that he leave, Joey passed his resignation letter to him and the band started playing, playing really loud, as Joey marched outta there. It was kind of like a Mummers New Year's Day Parade in Philadelphia with lots of brass and arm pumping by Joey.
Whenever I was upset with my own lifetime job as a flight attendant, I'd imagine myself spilling some very hot, very messy kind of food on some passenger but my imagined dream stayed just that as I retired without even a tiny drum roll. Sigh.
I guess the problem with this kind of in your face exit is that you may not go to the top of the list with a future employer unless that employer has a great sense of humour and a great appreciation of irony. I hope there are lots of employers like that in the world.
Wait! I know - maybe Joey and Steven could start their own company. They could be consultants advising unhappy employees how to quit their jobs with, um, flair? Always leave them laughing.
