Follow Friday: The Beauty Queens

Canadais home to many talented women working in the fashion industry. The following ladies are a few makeup artists who find time to Tweet in between makeup touch-ups.

@makemeoverande (Ande Garcia)
Ande Garcia is one of those lucky people who were able to turn a passionate hobby into a career. Her studies in makeup artistry at Humber College have led to a career as a freelance makeup artist for over 13 years. Ande has worked with famous cosmetic companies such as Smashbox, Chanel and Annabelle and hosted and organized charity events. She’s also been the lead makeup artist at VIP events with Addition Elle, Suzy Shier, and LouLou Magazine and created new looks for L’Oreal Professionnel hair trade shows. Aside from her freelance work, Ande also has a YouTube channel and two beauty blogs. The Beauty Blog offers product reviews and makeup tutorials while The Plus Side of Black showcases fashion for average and plus-sized women who like to wear black. Ande’s Twitter is full of blog posts, links to fashion and makeup events and inspirational quotes. She’ll also post pictures of new products and looks she’s trying out.

@makeupjunkieJDT (Joy David-Tilberg)
Joy David-Tilberg has been a makeup junkie for as long as she can remember.  After leaving her part-time job at MAC to further pursue her freelance makeup career and spend more time with her family, Joy started her blog Makeup Junkie to post product reviews and makeup tips. Throughout her 10 years of working as a makeup artist, Joy has worked with LG Toronto Fashion Week, the JUNO awards, and We Day in Toronto. Her work has been featured in many magazines, including Flare and Fashion Magazine. Joy is currently a makeup artist for Chick Advisor’s podcast Where’d You Get That? and is the beauty expert for TheStyleGlossy.ca. Joy’s Twitter account links to her latest blog posts and informs her followers about hot new beauty products coming out. She also posts about fashion freebies, giveaways, and big sales.

@GraceLee (Grace Lee)
Grace Lee has spent the last 13 years perfecting her skills as a makeup artist. She hadn’t always planned on being a makeup artist, but while studying at York University, Grace got the chance to work with MAC and through this unique opportunity, she realized her true passion. As she worked with MAC, she become a global senior artist and helped build the brand name of the company. She left MAC in 2009 to focus on her career as a freelance makeup artist. Grace has lent her talents to shows for designers such as Alexander McQueen, Roberto Cavalli, and Oscar De La Renta and her past clients include Justin Timberlake, Anna Paquin, and Hilary Swank. Her work has been featured in numerous magazines including LouLou, Elle Canada, and Taiwan Vogue. Her Twitter account lets her followers know what makeup products she’s trying and what’s going on with her clients and photoshoots. It offers a light, inside-look to the fashion industry that most people never get to experience – the waiting, the long hours, and the early mornings. She also tweets about her favourite products.
