Nightwood Theatre hosted Ga-la-licious, its fundraising benefit of the year at Courthouse Chamber Lounge on December 12, 2006. It was a night of good cheer and support as Juno award-winner Sarah Harmer played crowd fa-vourites with her personal performance style. Emcee Elvira Kurt, host of The Comedy Network’s series Popcultured With Elvira Kurt and correspondent for CTV’s eTalk Daily, kept guests laughing with deliciously irreverent jokes as hors d’oeuvres were passed and bids were made at silent and live auctions. Auction sponsors included Wild Women Expeditions, Come As You Are, Michele Landsberg & Stephen Lewis, Accessorize Inc, The Spoke Club, Raptors, Mirvish Productions, Fionn MacCools, Bergstrom, Lululemon, Il Fornello, CIBC, and Girl + The Kitchen.
Nightwood develops, produces and tours landmark, award-winning plays by and about women, including Good Night Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) by the now-famous playwright and novelist Ann-Marie MacDonald, he Adventures of a Black Girl in Search of God by Djanet Sears (re-mounted with Mirvish Productions) and The Danish Play by Sonja Mills, playing February 22 to March 17. The 27-year-old theatre's plays have won Governor General’s, Chalmers, Dora Mavor Moore and Trillium awards, some of Canada’s highest literary and performing arts honours.
