Get some rest and drink plenty of fluids

That's what the doctor ordered. And for the past week or so, this has been my life. Except, unfortunately, I've had to throw work into that mix too, what with the bills to pay and all.

And I'm blogging about it because I know it's that time of year -- when the temperature changes and our bodies react and we get all sniffly and coughy and achy. Whether it's a cold, the flu (let's hope not swine), strep throat or a sinus infection (that's my ailment right now), being sick sucks.

For me, it's most frustrating because it's debilitating. I'm the type that always needs to be doing something. And when I simply can't, I get stir crazy. Although, to be fair, many do argue with me, saying that the reason I get sick in the first place is because I push myself too hard and then I take a while to get better because I'm stubborn and won't just settle down and let it take its course.

It's true. But I've done my best to surrender to this virus. At least this weekend I did. I spent as much time as possible sitting in bed, sipping tea, sleeping, doing some writing, having a nap, and so on. The only time I was outside was to go to the Ski & Snowboard Show where I was working and happened to purchase some severely discounted gear -- gear that I will be using out in the cold when I soon don't have a cold. Ha!

I sit here writing this with a stuffed nose, a sore body and I feel like my eyeballs are going to implode from all of the pressure in my sinuses. My bedroom floor is a testament to how many tissues I've used -- I'm even getting tissue born around my nostrils.

And despite taking medication, I do realize that I felt best when I woke up from a slumber or hydrated myself -- i.e. got some rest or drank plenty of fluids. They aren't old wive's tales for nothing.

So the moral of this blog is that it really is true what they say that all you can really do is get some rest and drink lots of fluids. It's true that we love in a busy world and we have busy schedules, but if you don't give in to getting better, we'll just be out of commission for even longer.

Oh, and if I can give any further advice, get the flu shot. I never do, and I get sick every year, so I should probably consider it. For now though, my chamomile lemon tea with just a droplet of honey awaits.
