Some Post-Holiday Thoughts

Hi , I've been encouraged to write a blog now and then for the Womans Post, so if this is an imposition blame them not me. Here is my second one .

Well, it was fun while it lasted, total calorie intake between Dec 24th and Boxing Day: 35,000, give or take a couple of chocolate logs. That means that if I'm to recover I will have to run from Oakville ( the west end ) to North Bay, uphill, with weights on my feet. It was so sad to find out that apple pie is not a fruit and that cognac is not a digestive aid. Life can be very cruel.

I wish that I hadn't bought my wife a handy kitchen gadget as one of her Christmas gifts. She said, " Thanks hon, this is handy," which is the new, "shove it, I hate handy." I know better than that, it offset the positive brownie points that I amassed with the other gifts, now I will have to wait for Valentine's Day to get on the plus side of the ledger. Geez, what the hell was I thinking!?

Man it was fun while it lasted. I wore out the raised letters and number on my Visa card leading up to Christmas, and am now in major remorse mode. I did however get a gift basket from the head of Visa and thanking me for the business. It's like he was putting salt in my self-inflicted wounds. At 24% interest on the unpaid balance I would have expected an nicer gift. The thought just occurred that it may have been a re-gift , cheap - - - - -. I am now officially in the 99% and looking to start up the Occupy Toronto movement again.

Just got back from the Gym after a two week layoff. I don't trust digital scales, do you ? I find them to be very inaccurate. Besides , I think that 180 is the new 160. Also looked in at the Zumba class briefly, man it looks like fun if I only had the courage! There were two guys in it, so maybe when there are 25 or so I'll try it ( I can do some of the moves).

I wish that I hadn't given a gift to ----- -------- it was lacking in sincerity (bet you know who you are, no not you, someone else ). Ya I know, childish EH!

I think that I may have gotten back few of the brownie points that I lost. I cooked dinner for my wife and her sister, which they liked very much. For those interested it consisted of:

.Calabrese Bruscetta .Peri Peri shrimp (do not mention this to Agnello if you see him)
.Risotto with Asparagus tips and peas
.Baked Fennel with Parmesan.

I did get to use the 24 piece Magic Bullet that I bought. Actually only of the inserts, the one to grind pepper corns, which I did use in the above so it was worth the price. I have a very smart wife.

As a gift one year she gave me a gift of cooking classes in Italy. Only upon my return and after cooking several nice meals, did I realize that in fact it was a gift to herself. I am told that she is sourcing various high-end house cleaning schools in Holland for me.

As for new year resolutions I think I'll re-name them to, "wishful thinking" or "hallucinations," or better still why not pick a couple that I know that I can achieve? How about trying to gain 15 pounds in 12 months rather than 6 months? Or reducing my overall cholesterol by drinking red wine more often , as the French do, they have excellent cholesterol levels. I'm just saying.

That's it for now Take care and give something to someone.
