Colour of Lines on the roads

February 26, 2010 - 2:24pm — by Natalie Gerhardt

Do you know why some lines on the highway are painted yellow and some are white?

The Yellow lines are painted to indicate the separation of traffic going in different directions.

The White lines are painted to indicated the separation of traffic going in the same direction.

Ball joints and tie rod ends

February 17, 2010 - 2:19pm — by Natalie Gerhardt

Do you know what it means when your mechanic tells you that you need new ball joints or tie rod ends?

Let's start with the function of these front end components. Tie rod ends allow you to direct your vehicle by turning your steering wheel, and keep your tires a certain distance apart from each other. Ball joints are the bottom pivot point of your tire.

What type of connection does your wiper have?

February 16, 2010 - 8:10am — by Natalie Gerhardt

Go and take a look at your wiper blades.....what type of connection is there? there are 3 main types. The Bayonet type which is like a spade type connection, the hook type and the pin type. Each one is fairly simple to replace, just check your owner's manual.

The suggested replacement for your wiper is every 6 months. Changing them every 6 months may stop your blades from falling apart on your drive during a rain or snow storm. Is it time for your to change yours?

Cabin Air Filter

February 12, 2010 - 9:02am — by Natalie Gerhardt

Does your vehicle have a cabin air filter?

Check your owner's manual for this.

The function of a cabin air filter is to filter out pollutants, some smells and allergens from entering the cabin of your vehicle.

If you have allergies, this filter will help with some symptoms you may feel from everyday driving.

Low Coolant Warning Light

February 10, 2010 - 9:58am — by Natalie Gerhardt

Unfortunately there is no standard from the automotive industry on the lights that turn on on your dashboard.

If your vehicle has low coolant there may be 1 of 2 lights that come on. One is a picture of a down arrow pointing at a wavy line. The other type is a thermometer that looks like it is in wavy water, which may also indicate that your engine is running hot. Or you may simply have a gauge with no light. It can all be confusing and you should check in your owners manual for more detail on your specific vehicle.
