Low Coolant Warning Light

Unfortunately there is no standard from the automotive industry on the lights that turn on on your dashboard.

If your vehicle has low coolant there may be 1 of 2 lights that come on. One is a picture of a down arrow pointing at a wavy line. The other type is a thermometer that looks like it is in wavy water, which may also indicate that your engine is running hot. Or you may simply have a gauge with no light. It can all be confusing and you should check in your owners manual for more detail on your specific vehicle.

Do you know what to do when this light turns on? You should look in your owners manual for the procedure to check the coolant level in your vehicle and possibly add some. There are also a few different types of coolant, look in the owners manual for your vehicles type. Be carefull when both checking and adding coolant....your engines cooling system could have pressure in it that would spray if you open it while hot. So be carefull! If you are uncomfortable doing this on your own please go to your mechanic he/she will help you out with this.
