One of my biggest fears is that I will get cancer.
I read an article last year that scared me. It said when aluminum is used in antiperspirant and deodorants to stop sweating, it clogs the pours and glands in the armpit and in turn locks in toxins. These toxins are thought to be linked to breast cancer.
Obviously, I no longer wanted to use a deodorant that uses aluminum (or any other harsh chemicals for that matter) to stop my B.O., so I made the switch to natural options.
But it wasn't a perfect union, I'll tell you that! I spent a year suffering with the wrong options for me.
I tried Thoms deodorant first and found it stayed moist in my underarm and after a day of moving my arms around, I had a bit of a rash. I continued to use the Thoms deodorant and had to reapply it a few times a day. My interns are used to seeing me put it on at my desk, but it still didn't work very well. I would say sometimes I still smelt a bit ripe.
Next I tried this Lush deodorant. I absolutely love the smell of it and it works like a charm, but something in it that caused redness and very dry skin. I was beginning to think there were no natural options left for me to try because I have very sensitive underarms!
Then one day on a Shoppers Drug Mart shopping spree, I came across the Tea Tree Deodorant Stick by Jason and I figured since Thom was a let down, maybe Jason was the man for me? Little did I know, Jason was about to solve my deodorant dilemma forever.
Not only can I go a whole day at work with only one application, but it can also withstand a spin class. The bonus for me is that it doesn't irritate my skin in any way, and it's natural, organic and is aluminum free.
This blog is written solely so I could HIGHLY recommend Jason Natural Deodorant to all those on the market to smell great naturally, without irritated skin!

3.23.10 - I just called my CNC (Canadian Nutrition Centre) store to see if they carried this...they said they don't because Jason deodorants have propylene glycol in them...which is an ingredient in antifreeze. Weird...I'm not sure whether this deodorant is safe now. I really liked it because of the odor protection it gave.
I just called my local Shoppers Drug Mart, and the lady I spoke to said that they don't carry it!? Weird...I wonder if (a) some locations don't carry it, or if (b) the whole chain stopped carrying it.
I used to purchase it as Superstore. But I just went there yesterday and I didn't see it on the shelf. I'm not sure if they were out of stock or if they stopped carrying it.
Almost all of my products are natural now. I shave with soap so that eliminates that issue. Good for you for finding a good one though!
Sara- I hope it works out for you too!

I actually started with the Jason brand and found it didn't quite work for me. That's when i discovered Tom's which, with menopausal hot and cold sweats, it works fantastically. I have also gone one step farther, replaced the shaving cream with parabens (didn't want it near my boobs) with organic shaving cream instead. My underarms are fresh and perservative free!
Wow, seriously! Thank you for sharing! I've had the exact same concerns and the exact same problems finding a solution. I'm excited that I only need to go as far as my local Shoppers Drug Mart to find it too!
