Fragrances aren’t just for celebrities anymore. They are also for notable terrorists! Seriously.
“Shigenobu Twilight,” is the new perfume inspired by Japanese Red Army leader, Fusako Shigenobu.
Apparently the fragrance has a spicy undertone of Japanese scents such as yuzu root and shiso leaf.
It doesn't surprise me an artist is behind this product. Only an artist and an architect would come up with a product idea inspired by, "the most feared female terrorist in the world.” Artist Anicka Yi and architect Maggie Peng are the ones who came up with the idea.
I spent some time reading stories about the attacks Shigenobu was involved in to see if I would wear the scent, if, of course, it smelled good. I still don’t think I could pull it off. I guess even if the scent was enchanting, I would have trouble representing Shigenobu's haunting past. And because she’s a terrorist. I am never going to think violence is the answer.
The Japanese Red Army spread terror as one of the most feared guerrilla groups in the world during the 1970s and 80s. JRA’s historical goal was to overthrow the Japanese Government and monarchy to help encourage a world revolution. The JRA wanted to end America’s involvement in Japan so they could become a communist state. Shigenobu is known for leading many attacks that include bombings, hostage taking, plane hijackings with ransom pay outs in the millions, and airport attacks. One of the most deadly attacks by the JRA was in 1972. (A massacre by machine gun and grenades in an Israeli airport) Shigenobu was captured and arrested in November 2000 for terrorism and passport fraud.
After her arrest, Shigenobu said she wanted to pursue her goals using a legitimate political party rather than violence. The Japanese Red Army disbanded in April 2001.
I guess anyone can have a fragrance now. You can even kill hundreds of people and terrorize nations for decades and get one. Who’s next? John Wayne Gacey? I'll admit the ceder bottle is pretty. I wonder if anyone would buy “intern extraordinaire,” inspired by Miranda Voth?
