Hotdocs so far....

I've been checking out Hotdocs 2011 on behalf of Women's Post, and so far I've been impressed! I'll be publishing reviews after the festival but here are my thoughts so far:

  • Some people get all emotional during movies. Me? Pshh.. I NEVER cry during movies. Documentaries about human rights violations and mass atrocities on the other hand? These will reduce me to a weepy mess LOL ....tissues please!
  • Do documentaries change our perception of the world? There is a talk about this on Wednesday night, but right now I'm leaning towards a hearty YES
  • Documentaries don't necessarily package information in a pretty box and present it to you in a conclusive way - what I've liked so far is that the things I have seen have really challenged the audience and respected their intelligence - reality is COMPLICATED and I love when documentaries capture this fact
  • Hotdocs is awesome! The volunteers have been amazing, the venues are really sick, and the whole thing is very well organized and runs smoothly (knock on wood lol) - So proud of Toronto for hosting North America's BIGGEST documentary film fest!!

Sidenote: Everytime I say Hotdocs people hear Hot dogs. Has anyone else had this problem? It's been causing confusion on my end lol
