Most people think if a bottle of wine is expensive then you are guaranteed a great wine. Nothing could be farther from the truth. There is a lot more to quality than price.

I’m by no means an expert in resume writing. For whatever reason, the writer in me has issues both verbally and interview-ally expressing my exceptional work ethic. But, shocker alert, this isn’t really about my work skills, it’s about yours.

I work at progressive, full-service ad agency in Toronto and as of late, it’s been my responsibility to sift through the 70+ resumes and cover letters we get on a daily basis. And as of late, it’s been a highlight of my day.

When it comes to award shows, I have never been a huge fan as my attention span can not comprehend more than 2 hours of constant television viewing.

My usual gig for Oscar night is curling up in my bed with a bowl of popcorn, extra butter of course and tuning in to the red carpet, and the red carpet only.

As I have a passion for fashion, the red carpet event of the Oscar evening is pretty much the only thing that really tickles my fancy.

Hot. Lesbian. Action.

No mothers.

Yes, folks, this is not about Fringe-turned-Mirvish hit My Mother’s Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding (though it is a fab show – go see it) – it’s about the New Ideas Festival Week Two play Soledad.

As I type this it is now officially 12:01a.m. March 8th, 2010 on my computer. I have been looking, researching, investigating, whatever you want to call it, for something to post in honour of International Women's Day. I have had many thoughts on what to say and how to approach this topic. I have decided to give thanks to the women who have made it possible for things like The Women's Post and for me to be a sommelier a reality.

For one year, I’ve been writing fifty-word pieces. I had considered myself the King of Concision. Then, I read Kevin Barber’s The Century, which are exactly 100 words. This was on my mind when friend and wordsmith, Fred Eaglesmith, told me I go on too much. The rest is Fifty.

Ladies and gentlemen. I have a little nugget of advice that might make your lives a little simpler: STOP TRYING TO UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER.

I hear it over and over again: He said this so I said that and now we aren't talking; or I asked him to do this and we got in a fight and it's still not done.

I wish that I hockey skills
Like Gretzky, Crosby, or Peters; Pete
I’d score big goals, make big saves
