The economy is in the dumps, we know. Jobs are being shed as quickly as credit is rising.

Greater Discounts on Financial Core Office Space

March 9, 2009 - 8:56am — by Haley Comet

Greater Discounts on Financial Core Leases

The Downtown Financial Core vacancy continues to slide. With tenants in cost cutting mode, an increase in subleases coming to market is delaying the lease up time of existing subleases. The result may be a decrease in net rates for tenants. We can probably expect a reduction of between 10%-40% of lease costs in the Financial Core. There is some higher quality built out space coming to market with the added benefit of furniture and IT inducements -- a great opportunity for tenants.

Employment law in tough times

February 25, 2009 - 3:31pm — by Christine Thomlinson

It seems like each day brings with it more news of lay-offs and uncertainty in the job market. For many people, this recession may be bringing their first experience with unemployment, whether it’s their own job that has been lost or that of someone they know. This may also mean their first experience with an employment lawyer. In the years since Canada’s last period of economic uncertainty, employees seem to have become much more savvy and knowledgeable about employment laws and, this time around, many more are seeking legal advice to make sure that they are being treated fairly.

Update on Financial Core Office Leasing

November 25, 2008 - 1:06pm — by Haley Comet

The Downtown Toronto Financial core has seen a flurry of sublease activity lately, and the number of subleases coming to market continues to increase. How fast these will be leased, and to what extend they will ultimately be discounted is yet to be determined.

On a positive note, for those looking to relocate closer to or into the downtown core, your opportunities seem to be increasing, and there may be great deals to be had. Feel free to contact me to discuss specific opportunities.

Building your Path to Success!

Women in Commercial Real Estate

July 8, 2008 - 9:36pm — by Haley Comet

One thing for sure is that we should not sacrifice our feminity in commercial real estate in order to be successful. Times are a changing and there are enough good role models in the business now that demonstrate that the best policy is to be yourself, be fair and be trustworthy and don't settle for less than what you are due. Let your wardrobe feature your good character, the greatest part of which is your womanhood! Now that is success!

RE Bill C51
Dear Steven Harper
Although you are no doubt working to do your best for Canada, I am alarmed by the thrust of Bill C51. I have read it. It will empower the Health Department to control the availability of Natural and Herbal products. Independent testing would become illegal without their permission.

All Aboard! (unless you're a woman)

June 11, 2008 - 3:40pm — by Justine Connelly

Growing up, my mother always told me: “Men can be mean, but women can be cruel.”

Recently, my boss has told me: “There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t support other women.”

Massive Technology Show - Part 2

April 30, 2008 - 1:12pm — by Laura Fayola Wallace

Okay....,
So I went to the show and guess what, I'm not there now. Really I have to say that the word massive is a severe overstatement when it came to this technology conference. You could basically go through and check out all the vendors in less than an hour, unless you found yourself at the Spirit Entertainment booth, where they had their Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 ready to go (spent a good set of time there).
But I did meet a previous colleague of mine from ctc Train Canada (www.traincanada.com), a great place for your computer software training needs.

I'm going to attend the Massive Technology show on April 30th in Toronto. This is a conference focusing on technology for business and will have key note speakers and panelists, delving into topics such as the economics of going green, information security and online marketing.
