The Toronto Women's Bookstore held a delightful fundraiser on Sunday, February 21st, 2010 with hopes of keeping the TWB in existence as they are threatened by our current economic situation. They are one of the few non-profit feminist bookstores in the city and they rely on sales to keep themselves sustainable.

January 27, 2010: At this edition of Courage to Lead, Women's Post covered a whole range health and wellness topics. Eric Grief, M.D., promoted his book "Get Diagnosed Fast," which gives useful advice on how to prepare for your next doctor's visit and help you leave with an accurate diagnosis. Sammie Kennedy, creator of Booty Camp Fitness, spoke on ways to stay fit, even while at your desk job. And last but not least, Melissa Ramos, from SexyFoodTherapy.com spoke on how to control emotional eating.

Tuesday January 12, 2010: The Women of Baycrest held a fundraising event at Murale at the Shops at Don Mills. It was positive event full of wine and tantalizing tidbits mixed with shopping the latest cosmetics and fragrances. They finished off the evening at McEwan's for coffee and dessert. 

Women of Baycrest is a network of accomplished, empowered, conscientious women committed to financially supporting leading-edge scientific research and discovery. Their objective is to raise $3 million to fund a new Research Chair in Women's Brain Health & Aging at Baycrest.

Tuesday, January 5, 2010: The shortlist for the Charles Taylor Prize for Literary Non-Fiction were announced. The prize is presented annually by the Charles Taylor Foundation with the support of its partners.  The winner of the 2010 Charles Taylor Prize for Literary Non-Fiction will be announced at a gala awards ceremony and luncheon, to be held at Le Meridien King Edward Hotel in downtown Toronto on Monday, February 8, 2010.

The black-tie dinner and award ceremony drew nearly 500 members of the publishing, media and arts communities. The Scotiabank Giller Prize is the largest annual prize for fiction in the country. On October 21st, 2009 the 4th annual Chocolate Relay took place. The 911 Chocolate Relay had local fire, police, and paramedic members all devouring chocolate in hopes of winning the coveted CFW Chocolate Ball. This event is part of week long activities inspired by all things chocolate. Proceeds from the relay are donated to support prostate and breast cancer research.

On October 4th, 2009, the 18th annual Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for a Cure took place. This volunteer led event had 28,000 participants including Nick and Joe Jonas. An estimated $4.1 million was raised towards a national goal of $26.5 million.

The awards are given annually to the best English-language and the best French-language books. They are awarded in both languages in each of seven categories: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama, children's literature (text), children's literature (illustration), and translation. May 27, 2009:  Toronto taste makers and VIP's gathered at French restaurant, Didier, to celebrate his recent title of Master Chef of France. The evening began with the consulate general of France, Jerome Cauchard congratulating Didier, and was followed by wine and bubbly provided by Henry of Pelham, along with other eminent hors d'oeuvres. The food, wine and live French accordion musicians created a magical evening that felt like a night out in Paris.
