Jacoline Loewen
Women's Post Contributor
Jacoline Loewen is an experienced private equity investor. She is also a corporate consultant, lecturer and writer of business strategy and private equity investing. She is the author of Money Magnet: attracting investors to your business published by Wiley. She also has two books, both published by Struik: best-seller (1997) and (2001). Jacoline is a graduate of McGill University (B.A. Industrial Relations) and obtained her MBA from the Witswaterand University Business School, South Africa.
Jacoline joined Loewen & Partners in 2005 where she is a business advisor for owner-managed companies seeking capital - venture capital, private equity.
She is a Board Director for Bilingo China and sits on the Advisory Board of the Women's Post. She is a judge for the Ivey Business School's annual Business Plan Competition, she sits on the Board of the University of Toronto, Rotman MBA IMC, she is a mentor for the Canadian Youth Business Foundation as well as a member of Canadian Association of Family Enterprises, Women in Capital Markets and The Ticker Club.
While she was a student in Industrial Relations at McGill University, Montreal, Jacoline began her career in the mining industry on locations in Alaska and Northern Canada. She then worked in the Canadian media industry when Telemedia Inc. awarded Jacoline the Most Innovative Employee for her development of a new product.
In 1989, she went to South Africa, where she joined the strategy group of Deloitte & Touche. Her MBA thesis was published by Cambridge University and Jacoline was invited to present it at Cambridge’s European Strategy & Operations Conference. On graduation, Jacoline joined Investec, a South African merchant banking firm, as Corporate Strategist reporting to the CEO. She designed strategy processes and rolled them out. She then set up her own company, Strategy International, and assisted many Southern African blue chip companies, government departments and high growth companies in strategic planning. During this time, she was listed in Leading Women of South Africa and nominated for “Business Woman of the Year” by SABC. Strategy International’s South African franchise was sold in 1999.
After returning to Canada, Jacoline continued to act as an advisor to owner-managed and high growth companies, assisting them in strategy and planning. She was on the Board of Directors of the Strategic Leadership Forum where she ran the highly successful Knowledge Café series. Currently, with Loewen & Partners, she organizes CEO Retreats and other conferences to transform the way CEOs and owners see their company and to encourage innovation and powerful growth.
